Inside A Nerve - The Natural History Museum

Special cells around the long axon of the neuron help it to carry signal. The flattened end plates enable the neuron to pass signals to the muscle.

Signals are carried to your muscle by nerve cells (neurons) like these. Each receive, carry and pass on signals. The branches of the calls body increases it's surface area, so it can receive signals from many other nerves.

What is happening
In the cell body when enough signals are reaching the cell body, they cause electrical changes inside it. These electrical changes trigger off electrical signal (impulses).
